Paddlefest Yard Sale - Saturday May 11, 2013

Saturday 10a.m. - 2p.m.


Market Street in front of the courthouse will be blocked off for a community yard sale. Stop by to shop or rent a 10x10 space and sell your treasures.

 

Also open to home-based businesses as well (ex: Thirty-One, Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, etc.) (one vendor per home-based business only please.)

 

This is in conjuction with the annual Paddlfest on the Choptank Event ending accross the river at the Yacht Club.

Paddlefest on the Choptank May 11, 2013

Plans are underway for the 4th Annual ‘Paddlefest on the Choptank’ hosted by the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce. 

 

Friday evening, May 10th kicks off the event in Greensboro at the Carnival Grounds located along the Choptank River. There will be barbequed chicken prepared by the Greensboro VFD as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and pizza.

 

In addition to food, there will be live music and family activities including pony rides, a cornhole tournament offered by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and a free outdoor movie showing at dusk.

 

Saturday, May 11th will be paddler registration time at the Carnival Grounds in Greensboro beginning at 7:30 am and the launch which is scheduled for 9:30 am. 

 

The course will be a 7.7 mile paddle down the Choptank (going WITH the current) and ending at the Choptank River Yacht Club where the festival will begin at 11:00 am and go until 4:00 pm.  You can enjoy a variety of live music, food, displays and activities including the Fishmobile, paddle art and the Paddle Poker awards presentation all on the beautiful Choptank River. 

 

Paddle Art is Back

In celebration of the fourth annual Paddlefest on the Choptank, scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 11:00 – 4:00 p.m. (rain or shine), the Caroline County Council of Arts (CCCA) will be hosting a PaddleFest Art Exhibit at Paddlefest.  The festival celebrates the Choptank River and is presented by the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce. This free family-friendly event will take place on the grounds of Choptank River Yacht Club in Denton after a morning 7.7 mile paddle from Greensboro to Denton, and will also include live entertainment, food, demonstrations, wildlife and cultural exhibits, vendor booths, and much more.

 

The public is invited to submit a river-themed art piece for the PaddleFest Art Exhibit.  Using their artistic talents, participants can carve, decorate, paint, mosaic, and/or artistically enhance any maritime item, new or salvaged – or- create a river-themed art piece. Be creative. Use your imagination to celebrate the Choptank River. Individual, and team, entries of all ages will be accepted. Submissions will be sold at PaddleFest, the Community Arts Block Party, The Foundry, and Summerfest.

 

To participate in the PaddleFest Art Exhibit, please complete and submit the below registration form by Friday, May 3rd. Each entrant will set the retail price of their piece, and receive 70% of the sale, 30% of the proceeds will benefit CCCA art programs. Your PaddleFest Art piece should be dropped off on the morning of the event between 9 and 11am at the CCCA booth at PaddleFest

After you paddle, make sure to visit Downtown Denton (walk over the bridge or paddle over) there will be a Car Show and Yard Sale on Market Street in front of the Courthouse from 10a.m.-2p.m.

Community Arts Block Party - May 18th

This year's 6th Annual Block Party will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, taking place at 4th and Market Streets in Denton. Attendees will enjoy a free celebration of the arts – with live entertainment, artist demonstrations, art activities for all ages and lots of fun for the whole family. There will be live entertainment and dancing in the streets! Food and drink concessions will be available, including Italian ice, pit beef, pork BBQ, and hot dogs.


Participants can explore the new addition to the Artsway at Denton, the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES) at 7 N Fourth St, home to a regional quilt and textile center. The Foundry community art gallery at 401 Market Street will also be open to view artwork by over 50 local artists.

 

Proceeds from gallery and food sales benefitting the Caroline County Council of Arts. The community is encouraged to come out, have fun, show support, and find out more about the Arts Council and its many programs, including the new quilt center project.

Second Saturday at the Foundry - June 8th

On Saturday, June 8th, from 2-4 p.m., the Caroline County Council of Arts will host a free artist demonstration as part of the Second Saturday series offered at the Artsway in Denton.  Fiber artist, George Laufert will demonstrate crewel embroidery at the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES), 7 N. Fourth Street, Denton. George Laufert is a retired Federal and State employee who lived with his family in the same zip code his entire life (21224 – Baltimore City and County); that is, until a life altering move to Easton in 2007. He now has the time to participate in activities that were not as readily available to him before, including embroidery. George creates designs that uses lots of different stitching techniques and 3-D effects. FACES is a unique place to view historic and recent works by fiber artists from the Delmarva Peninsula. It is a great place to visit, shop, learn, and find inspiration. FACES is open Thursday – Saturday 12:00 – 4:00pm. Visit fiberartscenter.com for more information. A Dream House You Can Build is an all-day class to be held at the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore. This class is open to all levels, from beginning to advanced, and will teach Sylvia’s original method of sketching with threads and painting with inks. This workshop will teach you how to build depth with 2D elements in threads. After the duration of this class, you will head home with an almost finished project (measuring 10” x 12”), and will amaze yourself with what you have learned!  The cost for this all-day course is $45. A $14 kit (made payable to Sylvia) will be available for purchase the day of the class.
