The MSRC has funded a Housing Study project for Denton this summer using Rural Maryland Priority Investment Funds. The ESRGC has hired two teams of interns to walk the Town and collect housing data. Using a software application and hand-held tablets, students are measuring risk variables in residential neighborhoods throughout the Town. Everything from at-risk roofs to deteriorating foundations and crumbling sidewalks will be scored and combined with historical property value trends and vacancy rates to create a score that can be mapped using GIS.
Our students work 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. They will arrive in Salisbury University marked vehicles and will be sent to specific locations each morning to collect their surveys. Students are not allowed to access any private property and have been provided contact cards should they be approached by the public with questions/concerns.
We will be in Denton tomorrow (5/30/18) from 9:30 am – 11:30 am for training and will commence with full-time surveying on Thursday, May 31st.
