Welcome to Denton!

Denton, the seat of Caroline County, is steeped in history. The Town began as a tiny settlement on the Choptank River about 1781. It quickly became a trade center for a fairly wide agricultural area. In the days when commerce between the Eastern Shore and Baltimore was chiefly by water, Denton Wharf on the Choptank River was a busy loading point. Today, Denton still welcomes commerce. Located on the river, the charming town is a perfect place to live and work. Come see our “treasures”, relax and enjoy shopping and dining in our downtown.

  • Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Information.

The Town of Denton is actively monitoring the coronavirus situation.  We are coordinating with county and state health and emergency response agencies to proactively plan, prepare, and respond as appropriate.  We encourage residents to be our partner by practicing good hygiene and avoiding contact with others if they feel ill.

The Town of Denton’s staff will continue to keep our residents informed. Meetings are being held to address policies and practices with respect to the health and safety of residents, our employees, our program participants, and our patrons.  The Town is monitoring public health information and planning for public meeting and gathering protocols, facility cleanliness, continuity of operations, and internal and external communications.

In an attempt to try and slow down the spread of the disease, we encourage you to:

  • Avoid mass gatherings.
  • Avoid non-essential travel.
  • Stay away from others when you are sick. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid crowded areas or places where you might interact with people who are sick.
  • Keep distance between yourself and other people.
  • It is vitally important that everyone practice good hygiene, especially proper handwashing, and avoid touching your face.
  • If people have mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and shortness of breath, they should contact their primary care provider first. PCPs are the best way to access care.
  • If they have general questions about COVID-19, they should contact 2-1-1.

The situation is being monitored daily, and decisions will be communicated about facility closures and program cancellations as they are made.

The Town’s administrative offices are open for business (lobby closed to the public) and pubic operations are continuing. Note that staff coverage may be limited.
